Non-fungible tokens, often referred to as NFTs, are blockchain-based tokens representing a unique asset like a piece of art, digital content, or media. An NFT can be considered an irrevocable digital certificate of ownership and authenticity for a given asset, whether digital or physical.

Pigeons of New York are sold on Opensea, the NFT marketplace of choice. PoNY NFTs are sold in Ethereum.
NFTs and cryptocurrencies share some similarities but also have important differences. The main difference is that cryptocurrencies are fungible and NFTs – as their name suggests – are non-fungible. What this means is that one Bitcoin (for example) equals another Bitcoin, but one NFT doesn’t equal another NFT. Each NFT asset is unique and its value is determined by market forces.
Utility NFTs are NFTs with use cases beyond just being unique digital assets. They are NFTs which grant their owner privileges, rights, or rewards which they would not otherwise be able to access.
